The five
musicians of the El Darbak ensemble are currently working on new improvisations
which mix the instrumental sounds of oriental percussions while staying true
to the festive and traditionnal spirit of the egyptian masters.

Djamel Mellouk
Founder
of the El Darbak ensemble, Djamel was introduced to oriental rythmes and instrumental
rigourness with the egyptian masters of Cairo. From 1994, he travels through
Egypt and falls in love with its arts. In 1999, he co-founds, with the choreographer
Gemms, the Mille et Une Nuits formation, a unique group made up of seven female
dancers and five percutionnists united in their common passion for egyptian
dance and music. For four years now, this ensemble entertains in the most
prestigious venues : La Cigale, Institut du Monde Arabe,
Palais des Congrès de Lyon, Palais des Congrès de Montreux...
