Founder of the El Darbak ensemble, Djamel was introduced to oriental rythmes and instrumental rigourness with the egyptian masters of Cairo. From 1994, he travels through Egypt and falls in love with its arts. In 1999, he co-founds, with the choreographer Gemma, the Mille et Une Nuits formation, a unique group made up of seven female dancers and five percutionnists united in their common passion for egyptian dance and music. For seven years now, this ensemble entertains in the most prestigious venues : La Cigale, The Arab Institute, Palais des Cogres de Lyon, Palais des Congres de Montreux.

Djamel Mellouk teaches with passion and rigourness the middle eastern drums rythmes and tecnics. His lessons and workshops insist on the training of listening, the development of the rate, and oriental music rules, essential knowledge for the musicians and dancers who want to excel in this art.
