Spotlight on Paris - Gemma

Gemma learned classical ballet when she was young and she fell in love with oriental dance when she was 19. In 1996 she joined "el noujoum" a dance company and started working full time as a dancer. She left the troupe to form her own dance association, "1001 nights". Gemma has appeared on several TV channels in France and was in Tony Gatlif's film "Vengo". She danced in Morocco at Rabat and Casablanca. In France, she has danced at opening galas for the singer Alabina. She tourned all around France apearing in a show "Nel Haroun Cabaret Oriental 1920" which was repeated more than 55 times. Gemma recently put on a show of her own for the first time, at the Theatre du Renard in Paris. The show began with a fabulous pharaonic dance in which all the dancers wore blond wigs, followed by a gypsy-arabic dance to a song by Alabina. There were many more oriental dances, all with gorgeous costumes and all finishing with incredible tabla solos. Three musicians played tabla while the dancers were changing costumes, and played as sirens using the sound of the mizmar. The show closed with a cane dance in fringed costumes and a great tabla solo. We had a fantastic night with Gemma and her conpany.
